Process for Submitting Portfolios

Artists may deliver portfolio materials via mail, email or website link. If mailed, please provide SASE if you want your materials returned, otherwise we will keep them on file here at the gallery. Images may be in the form of slides or disc (no original works please). Digital images may be in the form of JPEG, TIFF or PDF files. Color lasers may accompany digital images but are not necessary. If possible, please include a resume, bio, and/or an artist statement.

We will contact you if we are interested in seeing the original work here in the gallery or to set up a studio visit. Our schedule is generally made 12-18 months in advance, so it may be some time before you hear from us after submitting your work. Please do not call or email to follow up...we will contact the artists in whom we are interested.

Paula Amt, Owner and David Kalamar, Director

Paula and David toasting the 5-year anniversary of plan b in April of 2010.

Paula Amt, Owner

Paula Amt is a native of the DC area and this will always be home.  Through her experience as a custom picture framer and as a member of a local co-op gallery, Paula knows that there are many talented artists in the metropolitan area.  Plan b is an opportunity to exhibit the works of some of these artists and to discover many more.

Paula enjoys showing artwork.  As framer and owner of Framesmith DC, she witnesses first hand how many people enjoy original artwork in their homes and their desire to discover new local artists and their work.  Plan b is an opportunity to provide a variety of original artworks to a diverse and growing audience.

Over the years, Paula has shown groups of artists at various locations in the area: SCAM, Son of SCAM, Art of the Americas, 10 Artists, and EXPANDOSCAM.

Paula, an artist herself, has shown throughout the Washington metro area as well as several locations throughout the US.  Paula received her BA in Studio Art and Art History.  She spent a year abroad studying in Paris at Parsons.

David Kalamar, Director

A resident of the nation’s capital for 26 years, David Kalamar has a real-sense of the Washington community.  He has owned and operated Kalamar Design, a graphic design firm, for many of those years.

His education in art came from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania where he received his BFA in Communication Design.  Coincidentally, Kutztown is the childhood home of famed artist, Keith Haring, who David fondly remembers meeting during his college years.

As gallery director, David builds upon his experience as an owner of Rivaga, a gallery space formerly located in Washington.  The space featured regional as well as national and international artists.  He is pleased to be now teaming up with Paula to create this new and exciting gallery space to provide the Washington community with a strong selection of work to both enjoy and purchase.
