William Dunlop’s paintings are characterized by the combination of expressive mark-making and rigidly controlled repetitive graphic elements. Working in oil and graphite, they reflect complex compositional considerations regarding figure and ground and the relationship between geometry and abstraction.
Dunlop received a BFA from the Corcoran College of Art + Design in 1977. After 22 years in the Washington, DC area, he is currently on the art faculty of Auburn University where he teaches design fundamentals.
His work has appeared in numerous exhibitions, including the LaGrange (GA) Biennial, Chattahoochee Valley Museum of Art (1996 and 2004); The Mobile (AL) Museum of Art Triennial; The Columbus (GA) Museum of Art; and The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts at Auburn University.
